Pravin Togadia quits as President after three decades

Mumbai : Pravin Togadia ended his three-year-long journey as President on Saturday. He announced quitting Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and said he would go on an indefinite fast from Tuesday to push the Hindutva cause.

He announced his decision via a press conference after his nominee lost the president elections with a huge margin. The elections were held for the first time in five decades.

“I am not in the VHP anymore. I was in it for 32 years. For the welfare of Hindus, I left my home and my lucrative medical practice. I will continue to work for the welfare of Hindus. Hindus first is the mission of my life and from Tuesday, I will go on an indefinite fast in Ahmedabad for fulfilling the longstanding demands of Hindus,” he said.

Former Himachal Pradesh governor V S Kokje was today elected the VHP’s international president.

Kokje defeated Raghava Reddy with a margin of one-third votes.
