71st Republic Day Parade: PM Modi continues 'safa' tradition, sports saffron 'bandhej' turban

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday continued his tradition of donning colourful turbans during the celebrations of Republic Day and Independence Day

On the occasion of 71st Republic Day celebration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to wear saffron Bandhej, which is a print developed using tie and dye method practiced mainly in states of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Like always he wore a 'kurta pajama' and jacket and paid his tribute to the fallen soldiers.

During the Independence Day celebration, he had worn a multi-coloured turban while delivering his speech from the Red Fort of India.

Earlier, on Sunday, PM Narendra Modi paid tributes to the fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the newly-built National War Memorial (NWM) at India Gate ahead of the 71st Republic Day celebrations.

PM Modi was received at the war memorial by the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the first-ever Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, Army Chief General Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh, Air Force Chief Air Marshal RKS Bhaduria.
