An important function of Vitamin D is to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphorous in the body to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy. Cheese: Cheese is one of the richest sources of vitamin D. Ricotta is said to have the highest levels of vitamin D. Cheese is also measured as a rich source of good fat and calcium

Mushrooms: Mushrooms contains decent quantum of vitamin D. However, be sure you clean the mushrooms well before cooking them.  Also, you can have fresh mushrooms in broths, stews or salads.

Fatty Fish: Fatty fish like mackerel, tuna, salmon are known for high quality vitamin D. You can include them in sandwiches, have them grilled or in salads.

Egg yolk: vitamin D in an egg comes from its yolk, therefore, it is important to use the whole egg in the diet and not just the whites. It is advisable to have yolk, unless you have a cholesterol problem.

Raw Milk: Raw milk is one of the best sources for vitamin D. Vegans can try Soy milk, which is also very rich in the sunshine vitamin.

Sources mentioned that food safety regulator FSSAI is preparing to launch a campaign- Project Dhoop so as to spread awareness about availing Vitamin D. The campaign will be designed for public and private schools.  

Vitamin D deficiency leads to poor bone health, muscle weakness, increased blood pressure, and hormonal imbalance. Lower back pain and low immunity are also signs of vitamin D deficiency.
