New Delhi : The journey of weight loss is a long task to achieve. And, it is not easy to shed weight for those who have gained big blocks of extra fats all over the body. Interestingly, a new research claims that losing just 5 to 10 percent of body weight has lots of benefits instead of losing maximum at a stretch.

Experts estimate that about 160 million people in the U are overweight or suffering from the problem of obesity. Same is the case with children, where almost 30 percent youth under the age of 20 live with the burden of obesity or overweight.

While many people are actively engaged in losing weight knowing the reason that obesity invites numerous diseases like heart problems, diabetes and cancer.

Though many people are successful in their short-term routine, the most challenging goal is achieving long-term weight loss.

Health experts define the long-term weight loss as losing 5 to 10 percent of person's total weight. The American Heart Association (AAH) advices that adults with excess weight should lose at least 5 to 10 percent weight for their cardiometabolic health. However, the new study claims that though losing a little weight is good, losing at least 5 percent of one's body weight for good metabolic health. The study has been conducted by Greg Knell, a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and their findings has been published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
