New Delhi : Scientists are making an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered robot cat that can help older people in reminding time for medicine or even help them in finding their eyeglasses.

Toymaker Hasbro and a group of scientists from Brown University are working on making of the robot cat. They have managed a funding of $1 million from the National Science Foundation to add artificial intelligence (AI).

Hasbro calls it “Joy for All” robotic cat.

A simpler version of cat is available in the market for over two years. It was aimed to function as a “companion.” It purrs and meows, and even appears to lick its paw and roll over to ask for a belly rub.

Now, the company wants to add more on it and make it a smart robotic cat via Artificial Intelligence.

Researchers are working to determine tasks make the most sense, and which can help older adults stay in their own homes longer, such as finding lost objects, or reminding the owner to call someone or go to a doctor’s appointment.

Bertram Malle, a professor at Brown, says his team don’t want to make overblown promises of what the cat can do.

If they make what they desire then it will be not just a robot but a blessing for elderly people.
