New Delhi : Indian cricketer Murali Vijay has announced his retirement from international cricket on 30th January 2023. Vijay, who was born on 1st April 1984 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, played for the Indian national team for over a decade. He is widely regarded as one of the finest opening batsmen in Indian cricket.

Vijay made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2008, playing against Australia in a Test match. He was known for his aggressive style of play and his ability to score runs at a rapid pace. He quickly established himself as a regular member of the Indian cricket team, and was selected for several tours, including the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies and the 2011 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India.

Vijay was particularly successful in the Test format of the game, where he scored over 4000 runs and had an average of 40. He was also a regular member of the Indian cricket team that won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in 2014, as well as the Sri Lanka Test series in 2015. He was also part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy in England, where they lost to Pakistan.

Over the years, Vijay developed a reputation as one of the most consistent performers in Indian cricket, and was known for his ability to score runs in all conditions. He was particularly successful in the sub-continent, where he scored several centuries and half-centuries. Despite his success, Vijay faced some criticism from fans and experts, who felt that he was too inconsistent and that he lacked the ability to play long innings. However, Vijay always remained confident in his abilities, and continued to perform well for the Indian cricket team.

In recent years, Vijay has struggled with form and fitness, and has been in and out of the Indian cricket team. He was dropped from the team for the 2019 World Cup, and has not been able to reclaim his place since then. In a statement, Vijay said, "I am proud of what I have achieved in my career, and I am grateful to the Indian cricket team and all of my fans for their support over the years. I have had some wonderful memories, and I will always cherish them. I am now looking forward to the next chapter in my life, and I am excited about what the future holds."
