New Delhi : Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has decided to completely ban the use of saliva for shining the cricket ball; the new rule will come to effect from October 2022 onwards.

The board has also announced that the runout practices at the non-striker end will not be considered under Fairplay practice,

Law 41.16 running out the non-striker has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair play) to Law 38 (Run out).

The MCC has claimed that using saliva on the ball will be considered under unfair play practice. They believe that using saliva to shine the ball does not have any impact on the movement of the ball. Meanwhile, ICC had banned saliva in wake of coronavirus pandemic.

The new amendments will come to effect from October onwards.
