New Delhi : Sri Lanka and Namibia started the T20 World Cup 2022; the likes were for Sri Lanka to win the game with an ease but Namibia performed exceptional on the day and stunned the former by 55-run victory.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. Namibia posted 163 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of 7 wickets in the fixed 20 overs. In reply, the Sri Lankan batting side never looked in control and lost the key wickets in regular sessions. 

Asia Cup champions lost their last five wickets just for 34 runs and gave the game to Namibia with 55-run victory.

It must be noted that the Super 12 round for T20 World Cup is yet to begin, but all cricketing eyes are on the qualifiers from which 4 teams are to progress. The likes of Sri Lanka, West Indies, Namibia, Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands, UAE and Zimbabwe are already battling it out for the 4 vacant spots in the Super 12s.

Sri Lanka, West Indies and Ireland are the favourites to reach the Super 12.

Cut  to the opening match, All-rounder Jan Frylinck was declared man-of-the-match. He performed with both bat and ball. Firstly, he scored crucial 44 runs and then went on to take the two wickets in the game.

"I’m a little bit speechless at the moment, what we’ve just achieved is above what we thought we could do," said Frylinck.
