IPL stars Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to play against Afghanistan; seniors to get rest

New Delhi : In the Indian Premier League this year, players such as Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased exceptional performances. As a result, they are likely to be included in Team India's playing squad against Afghanistan. According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering resting several senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the series.

Initially, there were concerns that the bilateral series against Afghanistan might be called off due to Team India's packed schedule. However, it has now been revealed that BCCI is contemplating fielding a new and young Team India for the series.

Following the conclusion of the demanding Indian Premier League season on May 24, India is scheduled to face Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final starting from June 7 in London. Given that senior Indian players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have been engaged in continuous cricket since the beginning of the year, the board intends to provide them with a well-deserved rest before the upcoming comprehensive West Indies tour, which will involve matches across all three formats.

If the India vs. Afghanistan series proceeds, it is expected to take place between June 20 and 30. Hardik Pandya is likely to lead the Indian team, while players like Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal might anticipate their maiden call-ups to the national team.

Mirwais Ashraf, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) chief, is currently in India to attend the IPL 2023 final, and a meeting among the members of the Asian Cricket Council is scheduled to occur on the sidelines to finalize the dates for the Asia Cup 2023.
