Meta globally lays off employees, impact on Indian workers too
New Delhi : Several employees in India, including senior executives, have been affected by Meta's (formerly Facebook) recent announcement of cutting down the work force, which is their third round of layoffs globally. According to media reports, Avinash Pant, the director of marketing for India, Saket Jha Saurabh, the director of media partnerships, and Amrita Mukherjee, the director of legal affairs for Meta India, were among those let go.
No immediate comment was provided by the company regarding the recent layoffs in India. But, Surabhi Prakash, a Business Engineer at Meta, shared a post on LinkedIn about her experience and mentioned that she has been asked to leave the company.
On Wednesday, Meta carried out a new round of layoffs that affected approximately 6,000 employees worldwide. These job cuts are a part of Meta's restructuring efforts aimed at reducing costs, known as the "Year of Efficiency."
Meta's recent wave of layoffs primarily targeted its business departments on a global scale. Meta's Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, had previously announced in March that the company planned to eliminate 10,000 jobs in two rounds of layoffs, scheduled for late April and late May.
In November of the previous year, Meta had already eliminated 11,000 positions. Altogether, approximately 21,000 individuals have lost their jobs across various departments within the social network.
Last month, the tech giant cut around 4,000 positions out of the planned 10,000, leaving approximately 6,000 positions still potentially at risk of being eliminated.
