New Delhi : Elon Musk has appointed Linda Yaccarino, a top advertising executive, as the CEO of Twitter. The decision comes as Musk endeavors to revive the fortunes of the struggling platform, which he acquired for $44 billion last year.

Taking to Twitter, Musk noted that he would continue overseeing the design and technology aspects of Twitter, while Yaccarino would primarily concentrate on managing the business operations and transforming Twitter into an all-encompassing application called X.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!" Musk tweeted. He further mentioned that Yaccarino's main focus would be on the business side of operations, while he would be directing his attention towards product design and developing new technology.

Having accumulated nearly 12 years of experience at NBCUniversal, Ms. Yaccarino boasts an impressive track record. Her team has achieved remarkable success, generating over $100 billion in ad sales since 2011, as stated in her company bio. According to her LinkedIn profile, Ms. Yaccarino has previously held significant roles at NBC, including chair for advertising and client partnerships, as well as president of cable entertainment and digital advertising sales. Prior to her tenure at NBC, she spent close to two decades at the global entertainment company Turner, further enriching her expertise in the industry.

Attracting advertisers holds significant importance for Mr. Musk and Twitter, particularly considering the exodus of many advertisers in the initial months following his acquisition of the social media platform. These advertisers were concerned about potential damage to their brands amidst the ensuing tumult. While Mr. Musk mentioned in late April that advertisers have since come back, he did not provide any specific details regarding this development.
