'Save to Google' feature will shut down on August 15, 2018

New Delhi : Google LLC has decided to shut down its popular feature 'Save to Google' next month, a latest report confirms. Though the reason behind the change is not clear, the technology company has also reportedly scheduled disapproval of another Chrome extension called 'Bookmark Manager'. Both the Chrome features were last updated on July 19 and are active now. They are set to shut down on August 15 this year.

According to 9to5Google report, the 'Save to Google' extension for Chrome will be discontinued next month. Further, the yellow warning message on the extension indicates the same. Hearing the news, tech people who have saved the pages over years are in tension as what will happen to the saved pages. Well, report says that the pages will still be viewed via the 'Saved' site. The message also includes a link to 'View saves', indicating that Google is only changing the way users save the pages via desktop.

'Save to Google' Chrome extension was introduced way back in April 2016 so as to save particular images and links. This ‘Save’ feature, announced in November 2015, was later renamed to 'Saved'. The report says that the feature gained more attention in 2017 when Google mobile search and the Google app added a quick shortcut to access the saved photos and links. In case of Android, the Google Chrome custom tabs opened through Search or the Feed has the 'Save' button in the app bar. In the meantime, the desktop website was recently updated to match mobile with a shared responsive design that adopts Google's Material Design.

A report published by 9to5Google, the 'Bookmark Manager' Chrome extension will also shut down on August 15 in accordance with Google's built-in manager.  The changes will likely affect the Chrome extension that is downloadable from the Web Store and the tool found at 'chrome bookmarks' will remain intact.

Let’s see the move might bring more exciting updates for Chrome users. Let’s wait for the time to come.
