Upgrade your operating system, unlock limitless possibilities with Google Drive
Delhi : Google has recently announced that it will be terminating support for its 'Drive for desktop' application on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and all 32-bit versions of Windows. This update, scheduled for August 2023, was first reported by Android Police and is now reflected on Google's support page. The company advises Windows users to upgrade to Windows 10 (64 bit) or a newer version before the designated cutoff to avoid any disruptions in service. For users operating a 32-bit version of Windows, accessing Google Drive through a web browser will still be possible.
Impact on Drive for Desktop Users
The Drive for Desktop app has been a popular tool for syncing files and folders between users' computers and cloud storage, as well as backing up data on mobile devices. However, starting in August, individuals using Windows 8, 8.1, or the 32-bit version of Windows 10 will no longer be able to utilize the app for file synchronization. Consequently, app developers and service providers are expected to withdraw their support for these specific Windows versions.
Google's Recent Changes to Google Drive
Earlier this year, Google implemented restrictions on the number of files users can create and save in Google Drive. Presently, users are unable to exceed 5 million files within the platform. According to Google spokesperson Ross Richendrfer, this adjustment aims to uphold optimal performance and reliability. Additionally, it serves as a preventive measure against potential system misuse.
Options for Impacted Users
Users affected by these changes have two primary options available to them. They can either update their operating system to the latest version or access Google Drive through a web browser, ensuring continued access to their files and folders.
