WhatsApp users may soon be able to transfer data through QR code from one device to another. This feature will offer a quick and easy way for users to move their chat history to a new Android phone without first backing up their talks and images to Google Drive.

Similar to the current capability of using WhatsApp Web without installing the app on your computer, the option appears to be available.
