Delhi : Facebook's widely used messaging service WhatsApp has a flaw that permits continued access to the microphone even after the user has stopped the programme. Several people found this flaw, but it was brought to public attention by a Twitter developer who experienced it on his Pixel 7 Pro.

The issue seems to impact a number of Android devices, including various Samsung and Pixel models and various iterations of the Android app. WhatsApp, in response, asserted that Android, and not the programme itself, is the problem.

The app's microphone activity has been noted in numerous of these complaints both through the visible green dot notice on the Android status bar and in Android's Privacy Dashboard. WhatsApp, however, claims that this appears to be an Android problem that incorrectly relates information on the privacy dashboard and has urged Google to look into it further.

Unfortunately, WhatsApp didn't respond until after Elon Musk voiced his view on the situation on his own Twitter account. As you can probably already imagine, he had a negative response and accused the business of being unreliable.

It's important that Google investigates the problem and takes appropriate action because this additional glitch might further damage users' faith in the app. This issue should be resolved as soon as possible.
