Delhi : In order to enhance user experience, privacy, and security, WhatsApp upgrades its platforms often with new features and security improvements. To accommodate more recent operating systems, all WhatsApp version to discontinue services including those for Android, iOS, and the web receive new system upgrades virtually monthly. But in order to concentrate on creating new technologies, WhatsApp disables support for older or out-of-date operating systems along with fresh updates for newer operating systems.

WhatsApp just announced that, starting on October 24, it would stop supporting phones with Android OS versions 4.1 and earlier.

"Like other technology businesses, we look at which hardware and software are the oldest and have the fewest users each year to decide what to discontinue maintaining. The official disclaimer on WhatsApp FAQ states that some smartphones "might not also have the most recent security updates or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp."

List of WhatsApp-compatible devices

The devices that will still support WhatsApp after October 24 are listed below.

Versions of Android OS 5.0 and later iPhone with iOS 12 or later JioPhone 2 with KaiOS versions 2.5.0 and later

Additionally, in order to authenticate their account, WhatsApp users must have a phone number that can receive SMS or calls. It states that customers cannot register for new accounts on Wi-Fi-only devices on the site.

This is due to the fact that many other apps, in addition to WhatsApp, have stopped supporting old operating systems. Additionally, without fresh security upgrades, cyber dangers might affect your phone.

In the meanwhile, you may check the settings menu on your smartphone to see if it supports Android OS versions 4.1 and earlier. Activate Settings > About phone > Software information. The Version category will provide a listing of your Android version.

What would occur if WhatsApp stopped supporting?

WhatsApp said it will alert users in advance and prompt them to update many times. WhatsApp will stop operating on a smartphone if it is not updated. In other words, users won't be able to utilize any WhatsApp functions, including sending or receiving messages or calls.
