On Tuesday, two police officers and 11 militants were killed and four police and 16 militants wounded in fierce clashes after the Taliban attacked a security checkpoint in Badghis.

    Taliban key commander Qari Qayum was among four militants who have been killed in Afghanistan's Baghlan province, an army spokesman said on Thursday. "The security forces have pounded Taliban hideouts in parts of Dand-e-Ghori district of Baghlan province and the death of Taliban notorious commander Qari Qayum has been confirmed. He was killed along with three of his armed men," Xinhua quoted Mohammad Hanif Rezai as saying. Eight more militants were also wounded in the offensive, the spokesman added. The elimination of Qayum could be a major blow to the Taliban militants in the province, the official added, without providing more details. Taliban militants are yet to comment on the report.

    Taliban militants blasted a key bridge in Afghanistan's Uruzgan province early on Wednesday, an official said. "The Taliban insurgents in the latest attack against government interests dynamited a key bridge in provincial capital Tirin Kot city on Wednesday morning," Xinhua quoted government official Sayed Shah Habibi as saying. Describing the attack as "enmity with people", the official said the bridge was constructed in 2012 to connect provincial capital Tirin Kot city to several districts and villages. The destruction of the bridge has added to the suffering of the people in the province, the official added. The Taliban has not commented on the incident yet.

    Over 50 militants were killed and dozens injured as aircrafts pounded Taliban positions in Afghanistan's Faryab province on Monday, an official said. A group of Taliban militants blocked a road to target military convoys but the government forces in efforts to disperse the militants, conducted a series of sorties, as a result 54 militants were killed and dozens other injured, army spokesman Mohammad Hanif Rezai said. Amongst those killed were two senior Taliban commanders -- Mullah Shah Wali and Mullah Qayum, Xinhua quoted the official as saying. According to the official, ground operations backed by air power are continuing in the area. Taliban has not released any statement yet.
