New Delhi : India’s UPI has officially reached France as NIPL, in partnership with Lyra, has announced the acceptance of unified payment interface (UPI) payment mechanism in France, starting with the iconic Eiffel Tower.

The Indian tourists will now be able to book their tickets for Eiffel Tower by making payments online using UPI.

The Indian Embassy in Paris made the official announcement with an event to mark the Republic Day of India.

The announcement is important for all the Indian tourists, who are also the second largest group of international visitors to Eiffel Tower. Indian tourists can make secure online transactions by simply using their UPI-powered apps to scan QR code generated on the merchant website and initiate a payment.

India's digital payment scene is booming, with UPI leading the charge! Over 380 million users strong, UPI has become a dominant force, as shown by its recent achievements. In January 2024 alone, a staggering 12.2 billion transactions were processed through UPI, highlighting its massive popularity. This incredible feat cements UPI's position as a global leader in efficient instant payment systems.
