Not making any tunnel to divert Brahmaputra River, says China
Beijing : China on Tuesday rejected all reports claiming that the country is making world's longest tunnel below Brahmaputra River to divert water to the parched Xinjiang region.
“This is untrue. This is a false report,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said when asked about the reports about the project. China attaches “great importance to cross-border river cooperation”, he added.
A report by Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post had claimed that Chinese Engineers are hunting for a technique to pull out a 1000-km long tunnel below River Brahmaputra successfully.
According to the report, the proposed tunnel, which would drop down from the world’s highest plateau in multiple sections connected by waterfalls, would provide water in China’s largest administrative division, comprising vast swathes of deserts and dry grasslands.
