New Delhi : Russia’s Defence Ministry has vowed take revenge of deadly strikes in Belgorod. Nearly, 20 people have lost their lives in the strikes. Russia has claimed that Ukraine attacked the border city with cluster bombs.

"This crime will not go unpunished," the ministry said in a statement about the strike on the city about 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Russia’s border with Ukraine.

According to media reports, around 20 people have lost their lives, including two children. More than hundred people have been left injured in the deadly strikes.

Several explosions resonated across Ukrainian cities on Saturday evening, spanning from Kharkiv and Sumy near the Russian border to Kherson in the south, prompting widespread air raid alerts.

On Saturday, Russia's foreign ministry requested a United Nations Security Council meeting to address the attack, as reported by Tass.

While Russia has claimed that Ukraine attacked the city, there has been no comments from Ukraine over the attack.

President Vladimir Putin has been briefed and ordered medical specialists to travel to Belgorod from Moscow, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Tass.

This assault marked the most significant incident targeting a Russian city since Putin initiated a comprehensive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Previously, Russia reported the successful interception of 32 Ukrainian drones over the Moscow, Bryansk, Orel, and Kursk regions through its air defense systems.
