AICTE announces winners of Bharath Cycle Design Challenge(BCDC) to develop Bicycle Prototypes

New Delhi : The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced the names of winners of the inaugural Bharath Cycle Design Challenge (BCDC), an exceptional initiative aimed at fostering ingenuity and originality in the realm of electric and non-electric bicycle design. The BCDC, a collaborative effort between the Training and Learning Bureau and the Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation, Bengaluru, under the auspices of AICTE was announced on June 3rd (World Cycle Day) and as a part of Council's celebration over our Country's G20 presidency. The competition called for 2D & 3D designs from group of students of AICTE approved technical institutions.

Out of an impressive total of 638 design entries, a panel of esteemed experts from relevant fields meticulously reviewed and assessed each submission. As a result of their discerning evaluation, a total of 16 designs have been shortlisted for further development – 4 designs each for the cargo EV, cargo non-EV, commute EV, and commute non-EV categories. The selected teams are now poised to transform their visionary concepts into tangible prototypes within the state-of-the-art AICTE IDEA labs.

Recognizing the potential of these trailblazing ideas, AICTE is providing substantial support to the chosen teams. Equipped with a seed fund of Rs. 40,000/-, each team will receive the necessary resources to materialize their designs. Furthermore, AICTE will present a coveted cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh only) to the ultimate winner in each of the four categories following a thorough evaluation of the finalized prototypes. This evaluation will conclude on October 2, 2023, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Indian innovation.

AICTE Chairman T G Sitharam said, "The Bharath Cycle Design Challenge is a perfect example for our commitment to nurturing creativity and pioneering thought within India's technical education landscape. By combining visionary ideas with practical implementation, this initiative not only propels the bicycle industry forward but also strengthens our nation's innovation index."

With the unveiling of these exceptional designs, AICTE celebrates the groundbreaking achievements of the BCDC participants and the extraordinary potential of their contributions. This event sets a precedent for future endeavors in the innovation arena, underscoring India's determination to remain at the forefront of design and technological advancement.
