Mumbai : Biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi will now release on May 24, one day after the results of Lok Sabha Election 2019 will be announced. The film was banned for release by the Election Commission during the time of election.

Initially, the film was scheduled to release on April 5 but after several complaints from the political leader regarding the content of the movie, the release was postponed.

The matter was first heard in the Bombay High Court then the makers approached the Supreme Court, but finally the decision on its release was left in hands with the Election Commission and Censor Board of India.

On April 10, the Election Commission imposed a ban on the release of the movie saying, “any biopic that subserves purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in electronic media.”

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said it was not inclined to entertain the application filed by producers of the biopic challenging the EC’s order. “What survives in this now?” the bench, also comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna, said.

The counsel appearing for film producers told the bench that the EC’s order is contrary to the clearance given to the movie by the Central Board of Film Certification.
