New Delhi : The Central Government recently announced that approximately 81 lakh Aadhaar Cards have been deactivated due to incomplete or unauthentic information.

"Till date, approximately 81 lakh Aadhaar numbers have been deactivated. The state-, year- and reason-wise data is not maintained by the UIDAI," Chaudhary informed the Rajya Sabha.

Under the provision of Section 27 and Section 28, the government holds complete rights to discontinue any Aadhaar Card if the information produced is found unauthentic.

Wondering if your Aadhaar card is still active? Here are simple steps to check the same:

Step 1: Visit the official UIDAI website - https://uidai.gov.in/

Step 2: Click verify Aadhaar Card under Aadhaar Services tab on the homepage

Step 3: Enter Aadhaar number and CAPTCHA code

Step 4: Click verify. If a green check mark comes then you have an active Aadhaar Card.

In case, the green check mark does not appear, here is what you can do to reactivate your Aadhaar number.

People with inactive Aadhaar Card numbers can simply visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre and re-verify their details to get it activated. The user will be required to deposit mandatory fees of Rs 25 at the enrolment centre to get it updated.
