New Delhi : Daman and Diu, the tiny Union Territory along the Arabian Sea, has become India's first region to go completely cashless.

Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir has commended the UT administration for taking the initiative to make Daman and Diu as the first cashless region of the country.

According to a report published by Press Trust of India, a team of 190 people visited over 25,000 households to teach them the benefits of being in a cashless society.

The administration supported the initiative by making available free WiFi at most of the places in the Union Territory.

This initiative was appreciated by Ahir as it will help in promoting the Centre’s initiative of Digital India and e-transactions.
