New Delhi : As India is battling hard with the second wave of coronavirus, the Centre has said that it is time when people should start wearing masks even inside their homes to ensure protection against the virus.

"It's time people start wearing masks inside their homes as well," said Dr VK Paul, Niti Aayog’s member (health), while briefing the press.

The statement comes at a time when India is badly hit by the second wave of coronavirus, leading to shortage of oxygen and beds in most of the hospitals in the nation.

In view of shortage of oxygen, the Central government has said that the rational use of oxygen is the key. Misuse of oxygen has led to unnecessary panic situation.

Dr Randeep Guleria, the chief of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, said that "misuse" of oxygen is a major factor contributing to "unnecessary panic" among people over oxygen, causing a rush outside hospitals and a shortage of essential drugs and oxygen. "If the saturation is 94% or above, then there's no need to worry," the doctor said during a press briefing over the ongoing Covid-19 situation in the country.

Following COVID 19 protocols is the key. The Union Health Ministry officials have claimed that maintaining social distance is the only option as one human being can spread the new mutant of coronavirus to up to 406 people in a time span of 30 days.

Dr VK Paul, Niti Aayog’s member (health), urged citizens to not go out until absolutely necessary and wear masks even when amongst family members. He also cautioned against inviting outsiders into family homes.

Meanwhile, India on Monday reported around 3.5 lakh new coronavirus cases.
