New Delhi : The research team of Innovation project of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College Of Commerce, Delhi University addressed the issues and challenges faced by specially-abled students ,especially visually impaired, in higher education through e-learning.

It found in this era of information and technology , no doubt e-learning has become a blessing for visually impaired students at higher education but still it is plagued with simple issues of availability of books & reading material in all formats.

It is also found that navigation of e-text, description of images, good screen readers for regional languages, lack of knowledge or proper training, affordability of original software, etc.

After the deliberation with key stakeholders, the team came up with solution of providing the e-learning material in the e-pub format. Few modules in the subject of English, Political Science, History, Commerce were prepared by the students and given to the specially-abled students for testing.

The feedback of the students were truly amazing. They wanted to congratulate the team on making this effort. The simple change has made the navigation progress more smooth and minimised the use of mouse which was one of the most crucial problems faced by them during learning.

One of students, Ajit Singh from Kirori Mal College rated these modules on high scale and hoped that the suggestion is well taken by the university authorities .

The team lalso hoped that recommendations of providing the e-learning material in e-pub format will not only reduce the agony of visually impared students but further empower them at higher education.

We have to go an extra mile to create an appropriate infrastructure which helps in overcoming impediments coming in their way.
