Fact Check: Will Indian Railways resume train services on April 15?

New Delhi : Indian Railways is preparing to resume most of its train services on April 15, 2020, claimed several news reports on Saturday.

According to the news report, sources in the Indian Railways confirmed the development that the Indian Railways is planning to resume services post the 21-day suspension after nationwide-lockdown was announced. The news reports also made claims that railway officials, including TTE, guards, safety personnel and others have been notified to prepare and return on the services from April 15.

According to the reports, a "restoration plan" has been issued to all railway zones and a schedule of trains that will be running, availability of rakes and their frequency was also provided.

Soon after the reports came into the notice of the Railway officials, the Indian Railways issued an official statement clarifying all doubts over the resumption of train services after lockdown.

The ministry, in a tweet, said that all concerned would be informed about updates regarding the same.

"Certain media reports have come on a post lockdown “restoration plan” with train details, frequency etc. It is to clarify that no such plan regarding the resumption of passenger services has been issued. All concerned would be duly informed about any further decision in this regard," the tweet read.

The ministry, however, started operating parcel trains to carry milk, essential commodities, fast-moving consumer goods. Two such parcel trains carrying essential commodities including rice and wheat arrived in Nagpur from Uttar Pradesh on earlier this week.
