Indian Railways offer free food for passengers in case of no bill

New Delhi : Indian Railways is adopting stern policies to stop vendors from overcharging passengers. It claimed that travellers are not required to make any payment for their food if they are not provided with a valid bill.

To make bill a habit, trains will also display the message in the LED displays. Eateries in malls and theatres display this message to ensure issuance of a bill for every transaction.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal explained that the move has been taken to ensure passengers ask for their bills and prevent train caterers from charging more than the price of the food.

By March 31, all trains where food is served on payment basis should have this policy in place. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has started publicising this message on its ticket-booking website.

In last one year, Indian Railways had received over 7000 complaints regarding overpricing of the food.

Strict action has also been promised against the offenders in the new policy by Piyush Goyal.
