Bengaluru : Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed all petitions regarding permission to wear Hijab in the schools. The Court clearly mentioned that the students will have to follow the specific dress prescribed by the school.

JKPDP chief Mehbooba Mufti reacted on the court’s decision and called it 'disappointing'.

"Karnataka HC’s decision to uphold the Hijab ban is deeply disappointing. On one hand we talk about empowering women yet we are denying them the right to a simple choice. Its isn’t just about religion but the freedom to choose," Mehbooba Mufti wrote on Twitter.

Muslim girls in Karnataka had filed petitions against a ban on wearing hijab in the schools. The Karnataka High Court rejected all the petitions and said that wearing hijab is not a compulsory religious practise.

With this, students in school will have to follow the dress codes prescribed by the educational institutions.
