New Delhi : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday acknowledged about a recent incident of missile misfire by India that 'mistakenly' landed in Pakistan. He explained that the misfire was a result of "inadvertent release of a missile during inspection."

"The government has taken serious note of the incident and a formal high level enquiry has been ordered," Rajnath Singh said.

"The exact cause of incident will be known after the enquiry concludes," he added.

He also clarified that India takes high priority on the safety and security of its weapon system; so any shortcoming found will be rectified on an immediate basis.

"I can assure the House that the missile system is very reliable and safe. Moreover, our safety procedures and protocols are of the highest order and are reviewed from time to time. Our Armed Forces are well-trained and disciplined and are well experienced in handling such systems," the official Twitter handle of Defence Ministry tweeted.
