New Delhi : Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday clarified that they have not issued any order to cancel the existing ration cards.

Rejecting the media reports over surrender or cancellation of ration cards, State Food Commissioner Saurav Babu said that the ration card verification is a regular process that is done time to time.

He also clarified that the eligibility and ineligibility criteria are in accordance to an order dated October 7, 2014; and there is no change in this.

Babu also said that no card holder could be declared ineligible on the basis of having a pucca house under the government scheme, electricity connection, sole weapon licence holder, motor cycle owner and poultry/cow rearing.

From April 1, 2020, the department has issued 29.53 lakh new ration cards on the basis of eligibility.
