New Delhi : Climbing stairs has numerous health benefits, among them is the reduced risk of heart attack. According to a study, it has been revealed that the heart disease will be reduced by 20 per cent if a person climbs 50 stairs daily.

In the world, strokes, coronary artery disease, and other cardiovascular illnesses, such as atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), are the main killers.

"Short bursts of high-intensity stair climbing are a time-efficient way to improve cardiorespiratory fitness and lipid profile, especially among those unable to achieve the current physical activity recommendations," The Independent (https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/healthy-living/walking-steps-a-day-weight-loss-b2421085.html) quoted Dr Lu Qi, a co-author of the study and a professor at Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine as saying.

In the study, it has been highlighted that climbing stairs is among the key effective measures to reduce the heart disease risk.

Scientists used information from the UK Biobank, encompassing a group of 450,000 adults, to conduct their investigation. Participants were evaluated based on their familial history of cardiovascular disease, recognized risk elements, and genetic predispositions. Additionally, they were surveyed regarding their lifestyle habits and the frequency of stair climbing, with a median tracking period of 12.5 years.

The results revealed that individuals who exhibited reduced susceptibility to cardiovascular disease had a diminished risk when they engaged in more daily stair climbing.
