When we talk about diet foods, oats and rye bran are a big part of healthy diet foods. A recent study has found that oats and rye bran can help in slowing down weight gain. It also increases the growth of beneficial microbes in the intestines which in turn aid in reducing hepatic inflammation. These food items are not only healthy but they also aid weight loss and can improve your metabolism. It also improves our blood glucose levels.

This study was conducted by the research team from the University of Eastern Finland, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland along with the University of Hong Kong. The research claims that the consumption of oats and rye bran can be linked to a decreased risk of obesity, metabolic syndrome, type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The dietary fibres in these whole grains also add to the health benefits.

The researchers fed two groups of mice a high-fat western diet but one group was fed the same diet with 10% oats or rye bran. They focused on the gut microbial metabolites which are linked to the development of fatty liver disease which as often been linked to obesity. The study concluded that both of these food items reduce liver inflammation and improve the gut. They also make for a great weight loss supplement and have been used for the same for a long time. They are known to be rich in fibre, minerals, vitamins, proteins, antioxidants and other such nutrients.
