New Delhi : Amid the ongoing situation of coronavirus pandemic, keeping good health has become one of the greatest focuses among people and exercise is the best way to do so. But, before you start doing so, it is also important to learn which exercise will give you maximum benefit at what time.

An ideal workout is a mix of cardio and weight training as the former helps to strengthen your heart muscles and lower blood pressure, strength training exercises are excellent for strengthening bones and toning muscles.

According to health experts, for a person to stay healthy it is important for him to indulge in physical activity for about 30 to 40 minutes daily. However, working out is more important than when to work out, there have been long debates on cardio in the morning and weight training in the evening. Let's talk about it in a little detail here:

Cardio in Morning

In general, cardio exercises are the first choice of people in the morning over weight training. This is because of the way our internal body clock works. In the morning, after sleeping for about 7-8 hours cardio seems better as it is less strenuous as compared to weight lifting. The chances of getting injured in the morning while pumping iron might be a little higher. Also, cardio instantly charges you up for the activities in the following day, instead of tiring you like weight training.

Weight lifting in Evening

As per research, weight training in the evening might be the best option. This is because of the functioning of two hormones, which are believed to play an important role in muscle building: Cortisol and Testosterone.

Cortisol, apart from other things it contributes to, also helps to regulate blood sugar level by breaking down muscle tissue when required. This process is called catabolism. On the other hand, testosterone helps to build muscle by utilising protein, which is referred to as anabolism. The level of both cortisol and testosterone are highest in the morning, while the level of cortisol drops by the evening.

What should you choose?

The thing is that every person on earth has his own comfort zone; some prefers to workout in the morning while some prefer to opt the evening. In the current world, body clock of people could be different due to 24x7 working style. So chose your workout regime as per your body need. What is important here is that you work out.
