New Delhi : Nearly six lakh women lose life due to kidney failure every year, which is much higher than the number of men dying for the same reason.

Women suffer from certain diseases affecting kidney more than men; lack of treatment make it worse for them.

On account of World Kidney Day, doctors discussed insights on the theme “Kidneys and Women’s Health” at an event organized by Sapiens Health Foundation on Sunday.

“Urinary tract infection is more common in women due to the short urinary passage, while pregnancy tends to worsen the situations. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a disease peculiar to young women damaging the kidneys,” said renal specialist Dr. Rajan Ravichandran.

Medicos held discussions over several issues associated to the diagnosis of kidney failure and its treatment.

A book titled “Proceedings of the Salt conference 2017” was also released by M.M. Murugappan, chairman, Murugappa group at the event.
