Basant Panchami 2020: Date, Time, Mahurat and all you need to know

New Delhi : Basant Panchami, which is also known as Saraswati Puja, will be celebrated in India on January 29 and January 30 this year. Going by the Panchang, the festival starts on January 29, but the experts in the field suggest that it is starting after the sunrise, so celebrating the festival on January 30 is more relevant.

How to offer prayers to goddess Saraswati?

On the day of Basant Panchami, place the idol of goddess Saraswati on a yellow cloth then place a 'kalash' and offer your prayers to lord Ganesha. Before offering prayers to the goddess, wash her idol with water then dress it and place some white or yellow flowers in front of it. Spread some dry colours around the idol. The goddess is then offered yellow colour fruits. If possible, also offer home-made kheer and maalpua. During the prayers, students can keep their books with them to get the blessings.

What Mantra should be chanted?

The main mantra that must be chanted is श्रीं ह्रीं सरस्वत्यै स्वाहा (Shrim Hrim Saraswatye Swaha).
