COVID-19 Cure

New Delhi : We're all pretty familiar with Coronil which was launched by Patanjali Ayurveda recently and was believed to be the "ayurvedic cure" for coronavirus. Since the launch of this medicine, Patanjali has been running into a lot of trouble with the concerned authorities. Patanjali launched the medicine on 23rd June and claimed that it was the cure for coronavirus and was made after obtaining permissions from relevant authorities and after human trials and that patients made a 100% recovery soon after. Baba Ramdev also claimed that their medicine increases immunity and will be available across the country within one week.

Soon after the launch, the AYUSH ministry took cognisance it. They issued a notice to Patanjali asking them to explain their claims and submit the documents and details of the medicine and it's trials. They also checked the license issued to Patanjali for the production of the medicine. Patanjali never received any license to find or create a cure for COVID-19 and the permission they had was only issued for a fever medication and immunity boosters.

Patanjali took this opportunity to clarify its claims and told the media that the medicine created by them is simply an immunity booster and they never claimed that it can "cure" coronavirus or that it can be used to control or contain COVID-19. According to them they simply informed people of the results of their clinical trials where they administered this medicine to coronavirus patients and got positive results.

Days after the launch of the medicine, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh tweeted that he was against such "cures" and warned Baba Ramdev that the sale of such medicines will not be allowed in the state. Patanjali has claimed that they created this cure in collaboration with the National Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur. In their new claims, they have also said that they have not created any "corona kit" and they are simply selling "Divya Swasari Vati", "Divya Coronil Tablet" and "Divya Anu Tail" in a package/kit. But this move was made only after an FIR was filed against Baba Ramdev and Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna and 4 others for misleading people. Aside from this, a notice has been issued to NIMS Jaipur seeking an explanation for the trials of Patanjali's Coronil by the Rajasthan Health Department.
