New Delhi : The divine Chaitra Navaratri 2019 begins from today, i.e April 6. The first day of the festival is dedicated to th worship of Goddess Shailputri, daughter of the mountains. Devotees also call Mata Shailaputri with the name of Sati, Bhavani, Parvati or Hemavati. The heavenly Goddess is known for her unlimited power of achieving impossible feats with strong determination.

Story of Maa Shailaputri

Goddess Shailputri, was born in the house of the king of mountains. She is the second incarnation of Goddess Sati. According to Hindu mythology, in the previous birth of Maa Shailputri, her father Daksha Prajapati used to be proud king who never accepted her decision of marrying Lord Shiva. He organised a yagya and didn’t invite Lord Shankar and when Sati reached to question him, he insulted her husband. Sati couldn’t tolerate her husband’s insult and immolated herself.

Maa Shailaputri  is always seen riding on Nandi bull. She is the wife of Lord Shiva and has two kids, Ganesha and Kartikeya. The goddess has a crescent moon on her forehead, two hands, carrying a Trishul (trident) in right hand and a lotus flower in left hand. She is the goddess of the Muladhara Chakra or the Root Chakra, who upon awakening begins her journey upwards. 

Shailputri Maata is associated with crimson red colour.

First day worship of Maa Shailaputri: Puja Vidhi of establishing Kalash

The puja place should be sanctified from Gangajal and so on. Then sow the barley in the soil of the soil. Put this pottery on the place of worship. After that take the kalash and fill it with clean water and put a betel nut, a coin and a turmeric lump. Then place coconut on top of the calk. It should be noted here that before setting up coconut on the urn, you must attach the kalawa and red color on it. Now establish this Kalash in the place of worship. Under the urn, some grains of wheat can also be kept. After this, pray that all Goddesses and Goddess Durga Navaratri to dwell in the kalash for nine days. Now burn the ghee lamp and incense before the Kalash.

Offer offerings of fruits and sweets to Mother Durga for offerings, and after this, do aarti of Goddess Shailputri.
