New Delhi : Chandrayaan 3 lander rover Pragyan has been set to sleep mode after it completed its assignment, said Indian Space Research Organisation. The rover was safely parked and set to sleep mode, ISRO posted on X.

"Currently, the battery is fully charged. The solar panel is oriented to receive light at the next sunrise expected on September 22, 2023. The receiver is kept on," ISRO said.

"Hoping for a successful awakening for another set of assignments. Else, it will forever stay there as India's lunar ambassador," the space agency said.

ISRO also noted that the battery on Pragyan is currently full charged and it is likely to be reawaken in September when the Sun will come out. But, if it fails to do so then it will stay there forever as India's lunar ambassador.

ISRO has reported that the APXS and LIBS payloads have been deactivated, with data from these instruments now being relayed to Earth through the Vikram lander.

The APXS tool is optimally designed for conducting on-site analyses of the elemental makeup of soil and rocks found on celestial bodies with minimal atmospheres, such as the Moon. Through APXS observations, the identification of intriguing trace elements, like sulfur, has been made alongside the anticipated major elements such as aluminum, silicon, calcium, and iron.
