The M3-powered Mac range for the upcoming generation was introduced by Apple at their "Scary Fast" event.

Delhi : Even though it was morning here in India, Tim Cook said "Good evening" to welcome people for the first time in Apple history. People were only waiting for the details because the "Scary Fast" event had already strongly hinted at its theme when it was initially announced. As anticipated, Apple has shown the new Mac series that is equipped with the M3 processor.

Geekbench scores for Apple's recently released MacBooks with M3 chips are flooding in from reviewers. They demonstrated the M3 Max chip's capability; on Geekbench 6, it receives scores of about 3,000 for single-core and 21,000 for multi-core performance.

With those scores, the M3 Max is comparable to the 2,800/21,000-scoring M2 Ultra found inside the Mac Pro and Mac Studio. A 5 nm, 60 W chip with 24 cores (16 performance, 8 efficiency) is the M2 Ultra; a 3 nm, 30 W chip with 16 cores (12 performance, 4 efficiency) is the M3 Max. The M3 Max has half the GPU core count of the M2 Ultra, despite the fact that Geekbench does not assess graphics performance.

Apple said on stage that the M3 Max CPU outperforms the M2 Max by up to 50%. Even while these multi-core Geekbench results fall short of that threshold, they nonetheless demonstrate the M3 Max's 40% quicker speed.

However, don't anticipate the M3 Pro to deliver the similar boost in performance. The M2 Pro features 8 performance and 4 efficiency cores, whereas the M3 Pro has 12 cores with 6 performance and 6 efficiency cores. Based just on paper, the M2 Pro appears to be more powerful than the M3 Pro. The M2 Pro, M1 Pro, and M3 Pro have memory bandwidth ratings of up to 200 GB/s and 150 GB/s, respectively.
