Delhi : Instagram's Threads app has seen a large drop in daily active users on Android, whilst Elon Musk's X (previously Twitter) continues to gain traction. The Threads Android app reportedly peaked on July 7 with 49.3 million daily active users worldwide, according to analytics company Similarweb. However, by August 7, only 10.3 million people remained.

When Threads first went up, it experienced a spike in popularity that drew users from Instagram to the new text-based social platform. However, the excitement was short-lived, and the number of active users of the program rapidly decreased. Despite the initial excitement, Threads has had difficulty sustaining user engagement over time.

Comparatively, X (formerly known as Twitter) claims to have over 100 million daily active users on Android alone, with users spending an average of 25 minutes per day on the network. Conversely, threads saw a drop in active user time from an international average of 14 minutes (and over 21 minutes in the US) on July 7 to barely 3 minutes by August 7.

Even while Threads had a strong debut, it hasn't been able to keep users engaged and interested like X. The app reportedly lacks the compelling information that keeps X users interested, such as conversations and comments on numerous issues, including criticism of X owner Elon Musk.

Although Threads may yet have the potential to develop into a large social platform, it must give users strong incentives to utilize the app regularly. The information shows the obstacles Threads must overcome to succeed as a major player in the social media space. For previous users to return, Threads will need to innovate and improve its offerings. The rivalry between these platforms will probably spur additional advancements and breakthroughs in the social media space.
