Google search: Type 'idiot' to see Donald Trump photos in image results
New Delhi : Sounds offensive but its true! If you type ‘idiot’ in Google search box, then you will see the photos of US president, Donald Trump in the image lists. The search engine results for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the search of the word “Feku” made catchy headlines in May, this year. This time, the Google algorithms are hogging the limelight again by showing images of Trump for a search of the word “idiot”
The image onslaught is possibly the result of a campaign by online activists who are manipulating Google’s algorithm by linking the word to an image of Trump, CNET reported on Thursday.
According to a report in The Guardian this week, the trend began with users of Reddit social networking website, up voting a post containing a photo of Trump and the word. The campaign to link the word “idiot” with the US president’s images has taken the form of an online protest as it is organized by people who are not happy with Trump’s policies.
Google, no doubt, help users to prioritise information in search results. Google’s algorithms play a stellar role in the rise of the company, but at times they spoil the situation.
In May, this year, Google search for the name “Pappu” led to results related to Congress President Rahul Gandhi. “Feku” and “Pappu” are possibly the names given by the opponent political parties of both the sides. In April, Google showed pictures of Narendra Modi, if one searched for “India’s first Prime Minister” until the mistake was corrected by the team at global search engine.
