New Delhi : After continuous efforts to ensure no fake content or misconception passes on to social media, the government on Wednesday issued draft rules to regulate social media.

The new rules will be directly implemented on the social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The new rules have also been drafted for online services like Amazon Prime, Netflix and other OTT platforms in India.

"Draft rules will also be implemented on the news related websites."

The news comes a day after Twitter refused to deactivate social media accounts of media personnel, famous personalities and others, saying that the move is in accordance to 'freedom of speech'.
