Whatsapp Chat Lock feature to secure chats when phone goes around
New Delhi : Many of us have found ourselves in situations where we need to share our phones with others, causing a sense of unease about potential consequences. WhatsApp, known as one of the finest messaging apps, now provides an additional safeguard called Chat Lock. This feature empowers users to maintain the privacy of their conversations by securing them with a password or biometric scan.
With the introduction of Chat Lock, users can now securely relocate their conversations from the public inbox to a dedicated folder that remains concealed until unlocked. When a message is received from a user in the locked chat folder, the incoming notification information remains anonymous. The locked folder itself is hidden from public view, necessitating users to pull down on the main chat menu to reveal and access it. Adding conversations to the Chat Lock folder is a simple process: users can navigate to a user's profile, select Chat Lock, and verify their selection using a password or biometrics. Once locked, the chat will be safeguarded and kept out of public visibility.
Currently, users are required to utilize the same password as their phone to enable Chat Lock, which may be somewhat disappointing. However, WhatsApp intends to implement the feature of having a custom password in the future, offering more flexibility. Although the functionality is relatively basic at present, the company is actively exploring the possibility of introducing additional features, such as extending the availability of Chat Lock to companion devices. Moving conversations to the Lock folder is a straightforward process: users can tap on the name of the desired person and select the Chat Lock option, making it easy to secure their conversations.
