Delhi : When making calls on WhatsApp, the new preserve IP Address function helps to preserve your privacy and security. This feature makes it more difficult for outsiders to monitor your whereabouts or intercept your calls by routing calls via WhatsApp's servers.

In an effort to priorities customers' security and safety, WhatsApp just announced a new tool that will assist users in protecting their IP addresses during WhatsApp calls. WhatsApp calling will soon be more secure, as the Meta-owned messaging app has added a feature that will protect your IP address when on WhatsApp calls. Take a look at the information provided below.

The "Protect IP Address in Calls" feature of WhatsApp

WhatsApp's new "Protect IP Address in Calls" function routes calls through WhatsApp servers, masking your IP address from other callers. Meta has said that "this new feature provides an additional layer of privacy and security particularly geared towards our most privacy-conscious users."

Meta launched the 'Protect IP Address' functionality on November 8, 2023. According to WABetaInfo, the functionality was in the works and was initially noticed on the Beta platform. The functionality is now available internationally.

By going to the app's Privacy settings and selecting the Advanced option, you will be able to disguise your IP address. The "Preserve IP address in calls" option can be enabled or disabled. One thing to keep in mind is that activating this setting will have a negative impact on call quality.

This is in addition to the recently implemented 'Silence Unknown Callers' option. WhatsApp has a "specialized protocol for delivering stripped-down, silenced call notifications" to the recipient for this purpose. Once activated, you will not be alerted of calls from unknown numbers, which may be spam. They will still appear in the call records, allowing you to identify the callers.

How Do I Enable the IP Address Protection Feature?

These are the procedures stated by WhatsApp's Help Centre for activating the Protect IP Address feature:

Launch WhatsApp > Select Settings > Select Privacy > Scroll to the bottom > Choose Advanced option

Protect IP address in calls can be turned on or off. Please keep in mind that when the Protect IP Address option is enabled, the call quality may suffer.
