UK to get new Prime Minister on September 5

New Delhi : The name of new UK Prime Minister will be announced on September 5, 2022. He will replace the outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was forced to step down from the post after more than 50 resignations came from his government.

Around 11 candidates will be trying their luck to get the post for which nominations will officially open and close on Tuesday.

In a bid to speed up the process, candidates must have at least 20 MPs backing them in order to enter the race, up from the usual eight, and any candidate who fails to get the support of 30 MPs in the first ballot will be eliminated.

Boris Johnson had announced his resignation last Thursday but he is still residing in Downing Street until his replacement takes over.

In his resignation speech, he called it a conspiracy of opposition to make him step down from the post, but he did not call it a betrayal.
