Ukraine's Zelensky, PM Modi meet face to face for the first time since Russia invasion

New Delhi : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held first face to face meeting during the sidelines of G7 Summit in Japan since Russia invasion.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Zelensky that he would do every possible thing to end the war.

"The Ukraine-Russia war is big issue for world. But, for me it is not just a war of economy or politics, but it is an issue of humanity," said PM Modi.

Meanwhile, Zelensky asked PM Modi to join the peace efforts by Ukraine to end the war.

Zelensky's physical presence at the G7, which was not confirmed by host country Japan until Saturday morning, provides the wartime leader with a valuable chance to personally engage with member nations that firmly support Ukraine, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. During these meetings, he can advocate for ongoing military assistance and emphasize the importance of their continued support.

Zelensky's participation extended to the Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia on Friday, where he appealed to leaders in Saudi Arabia to show empathy for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which he believes they have overlooked.

At the G7 summit, Zelensky has planned meetings with leaders from member countries including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Additionally, he will partake in a broader session focused on peace and stability, involving other invited nations, as announced by Japan on Saturday.
