Kaali Poster Row: Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai removes controversial tweet

New Delhi : Toronto-based filmmaker Leena Manimekalai has taken down the controversial tweet that landed her into a legal trouble. Her tweet with a picture of Goddess Kaali is believed to have hurt religious sentiments of several people.

In her tweet, she had posted a poster of her upcoming movie 'Kaali', the poster showed a woman dressed as the goddess and smoking a cigarette. The filmmaker also raised a question on the social media asking whether the social media platform will pull down each and every tweet featuring the poster.

Leena Manimekalai wrote, "Kaali cannot be lynched. Kaali cannot be raped. Kaali cannot be destroyed. She is the goddess of death."

Several FIRs and complaints have been lodged against the filmmaker in India for hurting the religious sentiments. Meanwhile, the Aga Khan Museum and the Toronto Metropolitan University have issued a public apology for showcasing the poster on their platform.

The documentary was showcased as part of the 'Under the Tent' project at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.
