New Delhi : Covid-19 (Coronavirus) in India is transitioning towards an endemic stage, implying that cases may continue to rise for the next two weeks before eventually subsiding. Despite the increasing cases, hospitalizations are currently low and are anticipated to remain low, as stated in some media reports.

According to the reports, the current surge in Covid cases in India is being driven by the XBB.1.16 sub-variant of Omicron, which remains the dominant variant. However, most of the assigned variants show little to no significant increase in transmissibility, disease severity, or immune escape.

The prevalence of XBB.1.16 has increased from 21.6% in February to 35.8% in March, according to the sources. However, hospitalizations or mortalities associated with the subvariant have not increased in the nation in the recent time.
