New Delhi : The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday passed an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to extend the lockdown in India further by two weeks.

The MHA has also issued new guidelines to regulate certain activities, based on the risk profiling of the districts of the country into red, orange and green zones. Relaxations have been announced for the districts under orange and green zones.

The criteria based on which the zones have been decided on the basis of active cases and doubling of cases in the district. Those districts which have not reported any coronavirus case till date or not registered a case in last 21 days has been kept under the green zone. Those districts which have not been defined as the red or green zone are put under orange zone.


A limited number of activities will remain prohibited across India, irrespective of the zone, including travel by air, rail, metro and inter-State movement by road; running of schools, colleges, & other educational & training/coaching institutions.


A large number of other activities are allowed in the Red Zones. All industrial and construction activities in rural areas, including MNREGA works, food-processing units and brick-kilns are permitted.


In Orange Zones, in addition to activities permitted in Red Zone, taxis&cab aggregators will be permitted with 1 driver and 1 passenger only. Other than this, inter-district movement of individuals & vehicles will be allowed for permitted activities only. Four-wheelers will have a maximum of 2 passengers besides the driver & pillion riding will be allowed on two-wheelers.
